What Is Gig Rowing?
Pilot gigs are wooden six-oared craft used for recreational and competitive rowing events From the 1700s gigs were used to carry pilots out to visiting ships The tradition of racing was born because the first gig to get its pilot out to the ship got the job All modern gigs are built to the measurements of one gig – “Treffry” – which was built by Peters of St. Mawes in 1838Teamwork
At Pendeen Gig Club, teamwork is at the heart of everything we do. Whether training or racing, every rower plays a vital role in moving the gig efficiently through the water. Communication, trust, and synchronization are key as we work together to maintain rhythm and power. Our coxswain guides and motivates the crew, ensuring we stay focused and push towards our goals. Off the water, we support each other through training, social events, and club activities, creating a strong sense of camaraderie. Together, we row stronger! 💙💛🚣♂️ #Teamwork #StrongerTogether #GigRowing
